The 2018 Scholarship Committee for the Northern California Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is reaching out to colleges, communities and resource organizations throughout the Bay Area to recruit applicants for its 2018 scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to minority undergraduate students; sophomores, juniors and seniors.
COMTO was founded in 1971 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC to provide a forum for minority professionals in the transportation industry. COMTO has 31 chapters across the country and members encompassing individuals, organizations, transportation agencies, non-profits and Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs). Members of COMTO now serve in every sector of the transportation industry. Since its inception, COMTO has evolved into the premier organization for the training, education and professional development of minority transportation professionals. It has assisted many minorities with their careers and those in seeking careers in the transportation industry.
COMTO also helps deserving minority students who want to pursue careers in transportation by providing scholarships, internships and mentoring. 2018 is the fifteenth year that COMTO will award scholarships. Since 2004 the Northern California Chapter of COMTO has awarded $225,000 in scholarships to 200 deserving students.
