The PR will use the modern techniques of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Operations Research to tackle research problems in one of the following areas under the supervision of Prof. Baris Ata (and his practitioner collaborators):
- Healthcare Analytics
- Social Sector Innovation
- Theoretical and Computational Analysis of Stochastic Networks and their Applications
This position is structured to prepare the PR to transition to a faculty position at a major research institution. The PR will conduct research, develop code supporting new methodology, and perform benchmarking comparisons in synthetic and real-data exercises, including PHI and PII data. The PR will also create and edit written materials like research documentation for potential publications, and talks and posters for research conferences. The PR is expected to be independently motivated to execute high-quality research in a collaborative environment.
A successful candidate should have a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related field. They will ideally have familiarity with highdimensional inference, deep learning, federated learning, or reinforcement learning, and related AI/ML and statistics literatures. They should have experience developing optimization procedures, and a command of high-level computer programming languages and compiled languages, supporting customizable data structures. Experience in R, Pyton and PyTorch is preferred. Comfort in Unix (e.g., Linux or OSX Terminal) and LaTeX is also preferred.
This position will require the ability to work independently and in teams, and to communicate and organize well. The ability to communicate technical material effectively to a broad audience as well as the ability to set goals, track progress, and prioritize as necessary to meet the deadlines are highly desired. The PR will be expected to manage relationships with external partners such as nonprofits and medical researchers.
This position is expected to last at least one year and often lasts two years, with competitive salary and benefits. Review of applications is happening now, on a rolling basis.
